Chicago-based cosmic and cataclysmic quartet REZN have mined the stark monochromatic depths of underground metal and fused them with the kaleidoscopic delights of psychedelia, prog rock, and shoegaze. From their inception, the band have been fiercely independent with a fully realized aesthetic and a fervent cult following. They will be touring their new album Cycles in the Infinite Dream.
Following the haunting beauty of their debut Forgotten Ways, Coltaine return with Brandung – a bold yet organic evolution of their signature sound. Formed in 2022 in the mystic shadows of Germany’s Black Forest, the band continues to dive deeper into the fog-drenched realms of atmospheric psychedelia, post-rock melancholy, and blackgaze intensity.

As knowledgeable gear heads, experienced sound engineers, and seasoned DIY veterans, REZN have been able to create a body of work devoid of any sonic compromises in their speaker-rattling dirges and heady lysergic forays. Their four self-released albums—Let It Burn (2017), Calm Black Water (2018), Chaotic Divine (2020), and Solace (2023)—have all gone through multiple vinyl pressings without any distribution or retail presence, and the international underground heavy psych world has routinely selected the band for distinguished festival slots across North America and Europe

Coltaine's latest offering, Brandung , finds the German combo swimming in a trance-like state across 9 sombre islands of sorrowful psychedelia. The album showcases the band's taste for purely cinematic and "post-" atmospheres where droning acoustic guitars melt gradually into harder, yet graceful electric sections. "Grace" is perhaps the most suitable term to describe the overall sense of soft longing for the unattainable as Julia's vocals paint their way through vast tapestries of sheer melancholia. Brandung opens up its lips just like a clamshell, allowing the listener in for a precious trip to the bottom of Coltaine's contemporary visions.
