This collaboration between thisquietarmy (Eric Quach) and otay:onii (Lane Shi) (Cruel Nature Records) traces its origins to a European tour in Spring 2023, where both artists crossed paths as part of the Hypnodrone Ensemble – a Berlin-based project led by Quach and Aidan Baker. The result is a dialogue between ethereal dissonance and visceral emotion, a powerful convergence of post-industrial ambience and emotionally charged experimentation – capturing the tension, intimacy, and unpredictability of their evolving creative partnership.
Anna Glaring – the remarkable Postpunk/ Coldwave/ Dark-Ambient solo project from Hamburg – will open the night for them. Combining different drum machines, synthesizers, reverb-soaked guitars, and ethereal vocals, she creates immersive dark and dreamy soundscapes. Glaring has released a string of acclaimed albums, establishing her as a distinctive voice in Europe’s underground electronic scene.

otay:onii, originally brought on as Hypnodrone Ensemble tour's opening act, soon joined the Ensemble on stage, becoming a key contributor to their new album recorded during the tour. The musical connection forged on the road deepened in the Summer of 2023, when Eric Quac invited Lane Shi to perform in his hometown of Montreal, which sparked an impromptu live collaboration, later titled "A Moose Dodging Funeral C" at the legendary venue Casa del Popolo. The duo further harnessed their chemistry into this hauntingly immersive album at Eric's studio the next day – fusing Quach's dense, atmospheric guitar drones with Shi’s visceral vocals and textural sensibilities, blurring the edges between drone, avant-garde noise, and experimental vocal performance.
otay:nii (Lane Shi) is a multifaceted artist originally from Haining, China, previously nesting in NYC, currently based in Berlin. Her artistic practice spans across music, performance, installation, and film composition. Through performances at Harvard University and prestigious festivals like SXSW and Roadburn Festival, CTM, Fusion, Creepy Teepy, LGW, Fekete Zaj, Full of Lava and so on. Otay:onii now has joined the Opera performance “Sancta” by artist Florentina Holzinger, and selected artist at Shape+ platform for innovative music and audiovisual art for the year 2024-25.

Montreal-based artist Eric Quach, known as thisquietarmy, celebrates 20 years of crafting experimental electronic and free jazz-infused heavy drone guitar music. Over the years, he has released work on labels such as Consouling Sounds, Midira, Utech, Aurora Borealis, Shelter Press, and Denovali, and has collaborated with members of Voivod, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Amenra, and Nadja. With over a thousand performances across 40 countries, his live shows have included appearances at internationally renowned festivals such as Le Guess Who?, Biennale Nemo, Amplifest, Dunk! Festival, Mutek, FIMAV and Red Bull Music Academy.
Glaring
Glaring is a Hamburg based solo artist known for her haunting blend of coldwave, minimal wave, shoegaze and postpunk. Combining different drum machines, synthesizers, reverb-soaked guitars, and ethereal vocals, she creates immersive dark and dreamy soundscapes. Glaring has released a string of acclaimed albums, establishing her as a distinctive voice in Europe’s underground electronic scene. Reviews describe her music as “a cohesive and introspective journey through the psyche” and compare it to early 4AD era dreamscapes as well as more recent darkwave artists such as Tropic of Cancer (Post-Punk.com). For her upcoming live sets she is going to play tracks from her unreleased album which will come out in spring 2026 on Lux Records Zürich and Marguerite Records Milan.
