20120416 SIM UPDATE - www.stubnitz.com/med
Dear friends, collaborators, partners, former partners, ex future partners, supporters of the SIM project .. well dear all,
With many apologies at first for not contacting you all individually .. I hope you'll excuse us and understand there are now quite a few people involved in this mess. Besides, please be sure we will, hopefully soon.
Many apologies as well for the delays in sending this update.. (yet this belongs to the area anyway .. we cannot be held fully responsible for it).
Last apologies for not making this mailing list available to all: As it seems, under federal law we could be sent to jail for this. No real time to check what's french law's position on the question. Rasha, if you have an idea..
This being said, please receive our warm gratitude: many thanks to you all for your support and involvement since three years: Work, expertise, advices, contacts, networks, ideas of all sorts ..: The project has now taken a more defined and, we believe, consistent/convenient shape (see update B), it is now a question of a few months until we know whether it will come to reality or not (See update A).
Update A: Reality / Money:
The SIM has just -well "just".. 6 weeks ago already- been submitted to the ENPICBCMED program for crossborder cooperation. We're asking for a 2 million grant that would allow its launching by late 2013 and insure its sustainability during its 2 first years of operation.
We will know hopefully this summer whether our file is pre-selected. Well let's cross fingers. A few alternative options are being folllowed but this one remains our biggest chance to finally launch the operations. If pre-selected, it will be a question of another 6 months until we know the definite decision of the European Cooperation.
Thus there's not much to do for now since everything will remain anyway quite virtual until this summer. We'll keep you posted of its developments. Of course if you have any question or wish to suggest any further action, please answer to this mail and we'll be glad to answer/discuss it directly.
Update B: Project:
Concerning the project itself: Kindly find enclosed the file that was sent to the ENPICBCMED: french and approximate english versions. It is what it is .. could probably have been better written and presented .. but as you'll see the main idea is now in our opinion quite conveniently designed.
=>All details about the project can be found under "www.stubnitz.com/med", our
former internal interface, that will also be updated/upgraded as soon as we get to
know how it works, find the time and energy to fill it in.. Yet it already bears all
relevant infos about the program. We hope the "comments" and forums section will be
actualized and made available soon.
The main idea remains the same:
Put the Mediterranean Sea ahead of the contemporary artistic creation, give this maritime space back to its historical and geographical destination of a cultural interface for it to become the matrix of tomorrows artistic initiatives, dynamics and shapes/forms.
By means of the following:
Creation of the first Euro-Mediterranean mobile cultural center, co-ordinated by regional cultural operators of national and international resonance and dedicated to the discovery, the promotion and the interconnection between the cultural and artistic movements in the Mediterranean Basin.
And also this and this:
ER1 Materially, this project aims at the takeover by local cultural operators of the mobile cultural platform "MS STUBNITZ", and its definite inscription in the Euromed Cultural Landscape as a catalyst and dynamisor of the regional cultural initiatives.
ER2 Its transcription within the numeric universe consists in an interface that will present the whole of the musical material thus collected according to purely acoustic and musicologicai criterions, in order to propose a genuine and "post-folkloric" integration of the regional artistic shapes.
Well if it works we really believe it can be both funky and interesting .. as said let's cross fingers.

As said we will try and keep you regularly posted of the nex developments (few elements of sponsoring and communication are being implemented that are probably worth being noticed..)
Warm regards,
Urs Blaser, Stubnitz Coordination / Thierry Jaussoin, SIM Coordination
