For over a decade now Primavera Sound has been offering consistently successful musical events. This Barcelona music promoter has, since its modest beginnings, developed a strong commitment to music so that spectators of different generations can enjoy live music to the full. This is clearly reflected in the quality and innovation of its line-ups that exude coherence, eclecticism and the love of risk-taking.
Its festival San Miguel Primavera Sound, which has been taking place in Barcelona since 2001, has consolidated itself as a model reference for urban festivals and is internationally considered an unmissable event. It stands out from the rest of macro musical events and is characterised by an artistic line marked by pop, rock and the most underground tendencies of dance music. Pixies, Aphex Twin, Neil Young, Sonic Youth, Pulp, Portishead, Pet Shop Boys, Arcade Fire, Pavement, Yo La Tengo, Lou Reed, My Bloody Valentine, El-P, Pulp, Patti Smith, Franz Ferdinand, Public Enemy, Television, Devo, Enrique Morente, The White Stripes, Wilco, Tindersticks, PJ Harvey, Shellac, Fuck Buttons, Swans, Melvins, Psychic TV o Spiritualized are just a few of the many bands who have played on the stages of the festival through the years.
As well as its outdoor festivals, Primavera Sound has also set up other big events like San Miguel Primavera Club, a festival that takes place every autumn in several venues around Madrid and Barcelona simultaneously, and PrimaveraPro, an international meeting aimed at the music industry that takes place in parallel to San Miguel Primavera Sound. The company also organises tours of bands around Spain, amongst which Bonnie Prince Billy, Apparat, Explosions In The Sky, Deerhunter, of Montreal or Battles stand out.
Primavera Sound has recently taken another step forward with Optimus Primavera Sound, the Portuguese version of the San Miguel Primavera Sound festival. Oporto is the city that has been chosen for this project and the first edition will take place next spring, one week after its Barcelona counterpart. The Portuguese city is the ideal place to host an event with the Primavera Sound brand name as it shares a number of characteristics with Barcelona: like the fact that they are by the sea and have a pleasant climate, their size, their enterprising character and the services they both offer.
