The Project

2 The Project
21 Approach: A durable project of cross border cultural cooperation.
22 Outcome: An amplifier and incubator of the Euromed cultural actuality.
23 Financing : Cross border cooperation ; public and private partnership and event income.

2 The SIM project: For a mobile Euro Mediterranean cultural center. For centuries, civilisations in the Mediterranean have used ships as a vehicle for cultural exchange.

The SIM project takes this historic role as a challenge: to seek to engender cultural integration through its capacity to programme culturally relevant art-forms

A/ SIM Global: Management: A durable tool of cross border cultural collaboration: A dual layer of partnerships are being initiated: A consortium of regional cultural operators of national and international profile will collectively take over the management of the ship, in order to make it available to local partners..

This consortium (see under) transcends boundaries and is international in construction. It will comprise of one or several representative institutions for each destination port, utilising different but complementary cultural approaches, or art-forms.

It is also designed to be open and progressive in character: more collaborators will be invited to participate, dependent on how many ports will be visited.

The project aims to have a direct impact on the cultural landscape of the region. A second homeport for the ship is being identified and it will probably be Cagliari. This will have an impact on the development of this open-ended project.

B/ SIM Local: The activities: A cultural and training center: From it’s base in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea, it will move between various destinations. It will be an “open venue” to local organisations, and will function as a resonator of the artistic community for each port.

It will ideally stay in each port for 4-8 weeks The programme will have a dual aim: to promote the emerging cultural movements in each port and to seek to dynamically connect them with their counterparts in the other visited destinations.

Under the management of the « coordinating institutions » mentioned above, programmes will be organised by a group of young promoters and curators in each destination port. This will also seek to offer young people the opportunity to develop project management experience in the development of cultural programmes..

Thus it will function as a platform for the enhancement or acceleration of culture and as a training facility. The MS STUBNITZ will become a comprehensive representation of the Euro Mediterranean
cultural landscape.

Through the development of an original musical online archive, the SIM will also house a comprehensive cultural database, articulating the musical landscape of the Mediterranean..

This is a unique opportunity to bring together partners in a project that transcends geographical or cultural differences and it sits comfortably within the European program of cross-border cooperation
ENPICBCMED.

It is our sincere intention to welcome new institutions and personalities to this project.
